About Nachiketa
Quality education, built for the children who need it most
India has a thriving EdTech sector — yet the children who could benefit most are almost entirely absent from it. The platforms that dominate this space are built for urban, English-medium, device-owning students with reliable internet and educated parents to guide them. For the girl studying in a one-room home shared by eight people, for the first-generation learner with no one at home to explain a textbook, existing EdTech simply does not exist.
Nachiketa is built to change that. We are a free-at-point-of-use, adaptive learning platform designed specifically for K–12 students from low-income and underserved communities across India — with Hindi-medium accessibility, low-device compatibility, and a pedagogy that builds genuine understanding rather than rote memorisation.
The name, and what it stands for
Nachiketa is named after the young seeker of the Kathopanishad, who refused to accept superficial answers and pursued truth all the way to its source. It is also a tribute to the spirit of every child who refuses to stop asking why.
That spirit — genuine curiosity, never settling for surface-level knowledge — is built into every feature of the platform. Our design philosophy is simple: Hook and Elevate. Every lesson meets students where they are, with familiar contexts, Hindi language, and real-world examples, and then systematically builds conceptual depth. We are deliberately anti-shortcut. We reward real understanding, not the ability to memorise and reproduce an answer.
What Nachiketa offers
Concept clarity through interactive lessons. Subject lessons are delivered through rich, interactive content that combines plain-language explanations, dynamic visualisations students can manipulate in real time, step-by-step worked examples, and analogies drawn from everyday life. We currently cover Mathematics, Science, English, and Social Studies across Classes 1–12, with more being added continuously.
Structured practice through our worksheet engine. Every topic comes with curriculum-aligned worksheets at three difficulty levels — Foundational, Standard, and Advanced. Students can attempt them digitally for instant auto-graded feedback, or download print-ready PDFs for settings where devices are shared or screen time is limited. Teachers can assign worksheets and track completion.
Mastery-based learning through adaptive quizzes. An intelligent quiz engine continuously adjusts question difficulty to each student's performance. Our proprietary SmartScore (0–100) tracks mastery topic by topic — factoring in accuracy, consistency, and improvement over time, not just a single test. Spaced repetition ensures that what's learned is never forgotten, so students are always appropriately challenged: never bored, never overwhelmed.
A real tool for teachers. The teacher dashboard gives real-time visibility into every student's progress, topic by topic. Teachers can see which students are falling behind, which topics need re-teaching, and which students are ready to advance — without waiting for a term examination.
Built for the communities we serve
Nachiketa is engineered around the realities of the families we work with, not the assumptions of the urban EdTech market:
- Free at point of use — no subscriptions, no paywalls for core content
- Hindi-medium interface and content — accessible to students who are not English-medium
- Designed for low-cost Android devices and intermittent connectivity
- Print-ready worksheets for fully offline use in community centres
- Integrated with on-the-ground learning hubs that use the platform as their core digital infrastructure
Working with Under The Tree
Nachiketa works in close partnership with Under The Tree, a grassroots education initiative that has served underprivileged, migrant, and low-income communities since 2014, supporting over 1,500 learners across Delhi NCR, Noida, Greater Noida, and the YEIDA belt.
This partnership keeps us grounded in the realities of the children we build for. Under The Tree's community learning sites and youth hubs use Nachiketa as their core digital learning infrastructure, and the insights from that ground-level work shape how the platform evolves. Together, we span a single connected learning journey — from a child's first lessons, through youth coaching and livelihood support, to quality K–12 content available to all.
Our shared commitment guides everything we do: Education First. Educate All.
Get involved
Nachiketa is free for any school, NGO, or community centre to use. We also welcome subject-matter experts, content reviewers, and curriculum advisors, as well as volunteer engineers, designers, and data scientists who want to help us reach more learners.
